An Online Optimal Bus Signal Priority Strategy to Equalise Headway in Real-Time

Bus bunching is a severe problem that affects the service levels of public transport systems. Most previous studies in field Signal Priority (BSP) and Transit (TSP) focus on reducing bus delay at signalised intersections ignore importance balancing headways. However, since general BSP methods allocate uneven priorities for individual buses, headways sequences are prioritised or delayed randomly, increasing likelihood bunching. To address this to improve reliability services, we propose an online optimisation model determine signal duration splits each traffic intersection cycle priority. The proposed able induce timing back baseline when request frequency low. Using model, statistically significant reduction 10.0% was achieved headway deviation 6.4% passenger waiting times. simulation-based evaluation results also indicate does not affect efficiency services other vehicles significantly.
